Our carefully curated selection of the most important varieties and cultivars from Japan's top regions and terroirs, sourced directly from leading tea farms in Japan and tested in a German laboratory.
A classic green tea from Japan caracterised by its minerality. Favoured among proponents of the macrobiotics diet and ideal in the evenings, this mild, alkaline tea is traditionally produced from a range of later harvests, including the coarse leaves of the rare kariban harvest, as well as the top-quality meban of the earlier intermediate harvest. Sourced directly from the farm in Japan and tested in a German laboratory.
Considered the most powerful of all green teas, benifuuki has the highest catechin content (particularly EGCG, ECG and the methylated catechins EGCG3''Me + EGCG4''Me) and a moderate green tea flavour with notes of black tea. Sourced directly from tea farms in southern Japan and tested in a German laboratory.
A specially developed range of unique teas optimised to contain special catechins at lab-tested levels. Sencha Immune Active IgA contains an ideal ratio of EGC and EGCG catechins, particularly when prepared as a mizudashi cold infusion.
Fukamushi (深蒸し; deep steaming) is a special form of processing in which the leaves undergo an intensive, long-lasting steaming (over 60 seconds). This makes them particularly fine, almost powdery, and results in a much fuller, spicier and less astringent infusion than conventional sencha.
GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) is an important non-proteinogenic endogenous amino acid. GABA teas, appreciated by connoisseurs for their smooth, buttery taste, are naturally enriched with GABA through unique oxygen-free storage during production. We source these special teas directly from selected top farmers from either pesticide-free or certified organic farms. Since the GABA content can fluctuate with each batch, we test every delivery for GABA content and pollutants in our German laboratory and report accordingly.
This green tea is a warming and highly aromatic classic. Blended with roasted rice, it is perfect for accompanying a meal, a cosy get-together with friends or for simply enjoying as a nourishing drink throughout the day. Depending on the variety, we use either high-quality organic rice or the particularly tasty Ise Hikari rice, as well as premium teas – our blends stand out from conventional genmaicha in terms of quality and taste due to our use of high-quality Meban bancha, sencha and matcha.
Fermented teas (hakkōcha 発酵茶) from Japan are a true rarity – even within Japan they are not typically known outside of the small area in which they are cultivated. Hakkōcha has a deep connection to the traditions of their respective regions and are only produced by very few tea farmers. Our double-fermented goishicha from Kōchi prefecture offers a completely novel and unique flavour experience, surprising the palate with its sour, fruity notes and woody fermentation aromas.
The esteemed green tea with full shading, sourced directly from award-winning farms in the top regions of Uji/Ujitawara, Hoshino Yame, Okabe, Mie and Shibushi. Rich in amino acids and chlorophyll, the tea has a beautiful sweetness and strong umami. Tested for radioactivity in a German lab.
Full-bodied, sweet and warming – green teas for colder days. Low in caffeine and mild due to slow and gentle roasting. We source all our hojichas directly from their respective farms. Lab tested.
This semi-shaded green tea from Japan combines the umami and sweetness of gyokuro with the bitterness and complexity of sencha. We carry an upscale entry-level tea from Miyazaki, sweet and fruity with full umami; a rare Ureshino tamaryokucha with a particularly expressive body and delicate bitterness; an original Hoshino kabusecha from tea master Takaki, with maritime notes and deep, strong umami; as well as a top-quality tea with deep vegetal notes from the mountains of Shizuoka, particularly harmonious and produced by the organic purist Kinezuka.
Rich in special tannins and polysaccharides, kamairicha is an oven-fired green tea with a sweet, nutty aroma, less bitterness and astringency than sencha and no grassiness. We source this tea directly from award-winning farms in Gokase and Ureshino, the two best regions for kamairicha in Japan.
A mild, slightly sweet green tea made mainly from stems and therefore relatively low in caffeine, karigane is nonetheless rich in umami/amino acids. Karigane teas are made from the stems of premium senchas or gyokuros, while kukichas are made from the stems of banchas or simple senchas. We offer classic sencha and gyokuro varieties, as well as fruity flavoured blends and delicately roasted kukicha, all sourced directly from leading tea farms in Japan and tested in a German lab.
Premium green teas dusted with ceremonial grade matcha from the first harvest. Exceptionally rich in catechins and amino acids, our fully shaded Ikkyu matcha has pronounced umami with a mild sweetness. This special profile results in beautifully bright, rich green tones in the cup and makes each vitalising Matcha iri blend unique.
Cold Brew Tea
Indulge in our selection of special green teas and accessories for making the perfect cold brew tea. Known as mizudashi in Japan, this brewing method involves steeping the tea leaves in cold water and letting them infuse for a few hours in the fridge, resulting in a refreshing and invigorating infusion with reduced bitterness and an optimal ratio of EGC and EGCG catechins.
A very alkaline green tea with special polysaccharides and a low caffeine content. The mildly sweet sannen bancha is closely related to bancha, but the leaves and stems are either gently matured (jukusei) or allowed to grow (koba) for a period of 3 years (san nen; 三年) before undergoing a nuanced roasting process. We offer rare organic sannen bancha from top Japanese farms, including the highly renowned, pioneering Miyazaki Sabo.
Rich in umami, nutrients and catechins and considered the queen of Japanese green tea, sencha can vary from a mild and sweet infusion to one with a more bitter profile, allowing this steamed and rolled tea to offer something for everyone. Our carefully curated selection of fresh, grassy senchas offers you a comprehensive spectrum of some of the most important and exciting green teas from all over Japan, sourced directly from award-winning farms and tested in a German lab.
Green and red Sunrouge teas, created by crossing C. taliensis with C. sinensis. These teas contain a large number of rare anthocyanins and catechins, which results in a bright red infusion. Sourced directly from Yuki Toyumura on the Pacific island of Tokunoshima, then tested in a German laboratory.
The aromatic, elegant tamaryokucha (guricha). Non-grassy flavour. Pressed into the magatama shape, not rolled. Pesticide-free and directly sourced from the 2014 Nihoncha Award winning farm in Ureshino, a top region for growing tea. German laboratory tested.
Tencha is the fully shaded green tea from which matcha is ground. We offer Super Premium tencha from the two-time MAFF winner Ishikawa Seicha and a Highest Grade tencha usuore (tencha twig tea) from one of Japan's leading matcha producers, in Uji. Tencha can be prepared directly as a tea or ground into matcha powder.
Select green, black and white teas of the highest quality. Well-balanced and fragranced exclusively with purely natural fruits, blossoms and herbs.
A selection of the finest matcha directly from Japan's leading organic farms from the most prestigious terroirs. The noble green tea powder, known from the tea ceremony and as a superfood, is made from tencha, a long-shaded and non-rolled green tea. Full umami, fresh chlorophyll, vitalising and intense.
Green Tea Bags
The most important loose leaf green teas packaged into extra large pyramid tea bags, allowing the tea to breathe freely during infusion. Our packaged teas contain the same premium tea leaves as our loose leaf range. Sourced directly from the farms in Japan and tested in a German lab.
Green Tea Powder
Green tea powder, also called funmatsucha 粉末茶 in Japanese, is not only popular because of its convenience and intense, pure green tea taste: powdered tea preparations are also a higher source of nutrients and other bioactives than tea infusions, as the leaves aren't discarded after brewing.
