Pu Erh Tea

Pu Erh tea, named after the city of Pu Erh in the Chinese province of Yunnan, is a general term for all post-fermented teas from the region, some of which come from centuries-old tea trees. The tea leaves undergo a fermentation process with microorganisms, and, similar to fine wine, many Pu Erh teas benefit from a longer maturation period. In addition to classic Sheng Pu Erh (green, slowly matured) and Shou Pu Erh (black, quickly matured) tea, it is also worth exploring rare regional specialities such as Liu Bao, Furong Shan Hei Cha, or Japanese Goishicha.

Sheng Pu Erh Loose Leaf - Maocha

For some of our young Sheng Pu Erh teas, we keep limited quantities of Maocha (毛茶) in reserve. Maocha, meaning “raw tea”, refers to the pre-processed but still unpressed leaves of Pu Erh. While it doesn’t possess the same ageing potential as the pressed cakes, these delicate, intact leaves offer a more accessible, immediate Pu Erh experience which is comparatively milder in taste.

Sheng Pu Erh cakes from Xishuangbanna

Xishuangbanna is a prefecture in the south of Yunnan, bordering Myanmar and Laos, which is widely regarded as the most significant Pu Erh region of all. This reputation is due to Xishuangbanna’s long-standing tea history, as well as its numerous tea mountains, which have earned a "legendary" status among tea connoisseurs. Particularly notable are the regions around Yi Wu (易武), Nan Nuo (南糯), Bu Lang (布朗), and Ban Zhang (班章), from which we offer high-quality cakes from various vintages.

Sheng Pu Erh Cakes from Lincang

Lincang is located in the southwestern part of Yunnan, with its western fringes merging directly into the monumental Himalayan mountain range. Sheng Pu Erh Cakes from Pu Erh

The region, home to the former Pu Erh tea trading capital (formerly known as Simao), is located in the southern central part of Yunnan. Due to its large number of smaller, somewhat lesser-known cultivation areas, it is also referred to as the "heart of Pu Erh tea production". Particularly notable is the region around the highly renowned tea mountain Jingmai (景迈), whose diverse, distinctively floral and sweet Pu Erh has recently attracted a growing number of enthusiasts.
