Ryumonji-yaki
Established in 1688 by Korean potters in Kagoshima, Japan, the Ryumonji kiln today has operated as a pottery union since 1948. Specialising in traditional black Satsuma ware, also known as Kuromon, these handcrafted pieces are made from local, dark volcanic clay and finished with their signature glazes, including Sansai "three colours" and Dakatsu "snake". All the glazes are made from natural materials, such as pumice, mud and rice husks, sourced in the vicinity of the kiln.
