Chataku 茶托

The Chataku is a saucer traditionally used with Kumidashi teacups as part of Senchadō: the ceremonial preparation and drinking of Sencha leaf tea, particularly high grade Gyokuro. Chataku arrived in Japan from China in the 17th century and were originally made from tin. Wooden Chataku were later produced, and nowadays are used in formal settings as a show of respect when serving guests.

Care

Before and after use, wipe down the saucer with a soft cloth, slightly dampened if necessary. Do not soak, and wipe off any spillages to prevent water stains.
