Character

Tasting Notes

Already upon opening the bag, the fragrant aroma of fresh spearmint rises, instantly enchanting the senses. Upon infusion, the leaves release a bright, glowing green liquor, gradually transitioning to a greenish-yellow hue. The flavour is exceptionally refreshing, vibrant, and uplifting, with a lively effervescence that radiates throughout the mouth and lingers for a long time. Despite its aromatic intensity, the infusion remains wonderfully mellow and smooth, highly drinkable and balanced. Nana mint lies at the heart of Moroccan tea culture and is cherished across the country. This tea beautifully reflects that legacy, carefully cultivated and harvested in its purest form.

Organic Moroccan Nana Mint Tea

Nana Mint

Nana mint, also known as Moroccan mint (Mentha spicata), has a rich cultural history tied to North Africa and the Mediterranean region. Believed to have originated from spearmint varieties cultivated in Europe and Western Asia, nana mint became especially important in Moroccan culture. Most famously, it is the key ingredient in Moroccan mint tea, a symbol of welcome and social connection. For centuries, nana mint has been valued for its refreshing aroma and soothing properties, often used in traditional medicine and cuisine.

Cultivation & Processing

Special features in location, cultivation & processing

Nestled in the heart of the Marrakesh–Safi region on the fertile Haouz plain lies the legendary “Red City” of Marrakesh. It is framed by the snow-capped High Atlas Mountains and crowned by Jebel Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak (4,167 metres), which takes its name from the Berber Tugg Akal, often translated as “the one that looks down upon the earth”. For centuries, this region has been one of Morocco’s most treasured agricultural landscapes, renowned for its olives, fruits, and aromatic herbs nourished by mountain waters.

The region’s naturally mineral-rich sandy clay soil, combined with a semi-arid climate and abundant sunshine, gives the mint its exceptional aromatic intensity. Cultivated according to the highest organic farming standards and entirely free from pesticides, the plants are irrigated through carefully managed wells and drip systems. The farm's sustainable approach combines traditional agricultural knowledge passed down through generations with environmental responsibility, helping to address the challenges of drought and climate change facing Morocco today.

Mint is at the very heart of Moroccan tea culture. When infused, this organic tea releases an intensely fresh and vibrant aroma that captures the warmth and spirit of Marrakesh itself. Harvested by hand and naturally air-dried away from direct sunlight, the mint is processed according to time-honoured traditions that preserve the integrity of each leaf. Free from chemical treatments and handled with exceptional care, it retains its vivid natural colour and rich aromatic profile. We are proud to share a mint tea of such remarkable purity, cultivated in harmony with both nature and heritage.

Preparation

Brewing Guide

2 tsp per 300ml water (100°C), steep for 3-4 minutes.

To make tradtional Moroccan mint tea, add green tea and sugar to the mint leaves before infusing. For a wonderfully refreshing iced tea, simply add a few ice cubes after brewing – perfect for a sunny day.

Packaging & Storage

Packaged in a high-quality, airtight, flavour-protecting pouch with zipper and stand-up base. When closing the pouch, press out as much air as possible before snapping shut. Alternatively, and especially for longer-term storage, we recommend our stylish and airtight tea caddies.

Recommended Teapot
