Special features in location, cultivation & processing
The tea comes from Ryōgouchi in Ohira, located upstream along the Okitsugawa River, which is an area known in Japan as “the hidden village of fine green teas”. The tea fields are set within unspoilt nature, on steep mountain slopes characterised by wide fluctuations between day and night temperatures, abundant fresh spring water, and frequent mist. The fertile, reddish mountain soil lends the tea its vitality and rich mineral content, while bringing out the classic highland character of Shizuoka. Due to the steep terrain, harvesting is carried out meticulously using hand-guided machinery, as larger equipment cannot be used on the slopes.
The roasted rice is organically grown and is carefully selected by the farmer to complement the tea for each harvest.
