Tokoname-yaki Masterpieces

Tokoname, in Aichi prefecture, is one of Japan's most important ceramic centres with a history that extends over 900 years. Traditional Tokoname-yaki teapots are made from unglazed, iron-rich clay, which softens the astringency of green tea for a smoother and sweeter infusion.

Junzō

The fourth generation master of the Maekawa kiln, Tokoname native Junzō Maekawa (b.1976) has won numerous prizes for his teapots including two prestigious Chouza Awards.

Jinsui

Founded in the 1850s, the Jinsui kiln is one of the oldest in Tokoname. The uniquely young team of skilled craftswomen is led by the fourth generation, Yusuke Watanabe, a designer by trade.

Jinshu

Seiji Ito (b.1949), aka Jinshu, is a globally renowned Tokoname-yaki artist. His signature Hira Kyusu are perfect for brewing Gyokuro and have won numerous design awards both at home and abroad.

Banko-yaki Masterpieces

Original Japanese Banko teapots with side handle from the famous Yokkaichi (Yokkaichi Banko Yaki; 四日市萬古焼), handmade from natural clay by leading masters. Ceramic strainer, strong reduction firing, purple clay. Ideal for gyokuro, kabusecha and karigane.
