Kyusu 急須

The traditional Japanese teapot, Kyusu are typically made of ceramics with a side handle placed at a 90° angle to the spout for ease of pouring – however the handle can also be found over the top or in the back. Kyusu are perfect for preparing green teas and tend to be on the small side to prevent overbrewing. Depending on the size, shape and type of clay a Kyusu is made from will determine what type of tea is best prepared in it. There are many different regional styles as well as Kyusu made by certified Traditional Craftsmen, which are prized amongst collectors.

Hasami-Yaki 波佐見焼

Hasami-yaki is a style of pottery from the eponymous town of Hasami in Nagasaki prefecture, best known for durable, everyday porcelain tea- and tableware. The history of Hasami wares date back to the turn of the 17th century when skilled Korean potters were captured and brought over following the Japanese invasions of Korea at the end of the 16th century. Using their porcelain making know-how, the Korean potters soon identified kaolin clay near Arita, close to Hasami, from where the production of domestic Japanese porcelain began.

Care

Wash by hand or in dishwasher. Since glazed porcelain does not absorb any odours or flavours, it can be used with different teas each time.
