Banko-yaki
Deep violet-brown with an almost metallic sheen, Banko wares have been produced in the city of Yokkaichi, Mie prefecture, Japan, since the 18th century. Banko Kyusu teapots are known for softening the astringency of Japanese green tea and accentuating sweetness, thanks to the iron-rich Shidei "purple clay" they are made from, which is left unglazed before reduction firing. For this reason, Banko Kyusu are highly recommended for brewing Sencha, Kabusecha and Gyokuro.
