ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

At Yoshi en GmbH, we aim to make our website accessible in accordance with the national and European legal provisions of the Accessibility Improvement Act (“Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz” or "BFSG" in German) and European Accessibility Act ("EAA"). Our technical implementation is based on the internationally recognised Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (“WCAG”) 2.1, conformity level AA. This accessibility statement applies to www.yoshien.com/en/

1. How to use our online store

Our online store allows you to conveniently purchase our teas, tea accessories and other products from the comfort of your own home. You can browse through our range, search for products, view detailed information about our products, add items to your shopping basket and complete the order process. Payment is made via secure and established payment service providers. After successfully placing an order, the items will be delivered directly to your home.

2. How our online store fulfils accessibility requirements

We have taken extensive measures to ensure accessibility while designing and continuously optimising our online store. The following section outlines how we meet the relevant accessibility requirements:

  • Structure and navigation:
    • Clear page structure and heading hierarchy: All pages are logically structured with semantic headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.) to facilitate navigation via screen reader and keyboard.
    • Consistent navigation: All pages are structured the same in terms of the main menu, submenus and the footer, improving orientation and predictability.
    • Keyboard operability: All interactive elements (e.g., links, buttons, form fields and navigation elements) can be operated entirely with a keyboard. A clearly visible focus indicator always shows which element is currently selected.
  • Visual aspects:
    • Sufficient colour contrast: All text and interactive elements feature sufficient colour contrasts against their backgrounds to ensure legibility for those with low vision or colour vision deficiency.
    • Customisable font sizes: Font size can be adjusted by users in their browser settings without losing or overlapping content.
    • Scalability and responsive design: Our store automatically adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels (“responsive design”) so that the content is displayed optimally on desktop PCs, tablets and smartphones.
    • Alternative text for images: All relevant images and graphics have meaningful alternative texts (“alt texts”) that can be read aloud by screen readers. Decorative images have empty alt attributes.

  • Forms and interactions:
    • Clear labelling and instructions: All form fields (e.g. in the search bar, in the shopping basket, during registration and at the checkout) are labelled correctly and clearly. Help texts are available when necessary.
    • Precise error messages: If an incorrect form entry produces an error message, the message is specific, clearly understandable and directly linked to the affected field so that users can quickly identify and resolve errors.
    • Simple checkout processes: The ordering process is broken down into clear and logical steps to minimise cognitive burden.

  • Multimedia content (if applicable):
    • Subtitles and transcripts: Video and audio content, when available, include synchronised subtitles and/or full text transcripts.

  • Technology:
    • We use up-to-date technologies such as HTML5 and ARIA (“Accessible Rich Internet Applications”) to ensure compatibility with screen readers, braille displays and other assistive technologies.
    • The site is structured so that, where feasible, core functionality remains accessible even if JavaScript is disabled.

3. Non-accessible content

www.yoshien.com/en/ is partially non-compliant with the BFSG due to the incompatibilities and exceptions listed below:

  • Some images and graphics on our website have no alternative text; we are continuously working on adding them. If you need further assistance, you can contact us via our contact form to obtain information on specific images or graphics.
  • On some pages, the colour contrast between text and background may fall below WCAG 2.1 AA requirements. We are currently reviewing the website's colour palettes to ensure that all text and interactive elements meet the required contrast standards.
  • Certain interactive elements (e.g., pop-up windows) may not yet be fully operable via keyboard or the keyboard focus may not always be clearly visible. We are continuously checking and updating the keyboard control and focus.
  • Some of our PDFs are not barrier free; we are working on adapting these as quickly as possible or providing accessible alternatives.
  • Some of our embedded videos do not currently have subtitles. We aim to add subtitles to all videos in the future.
